Niranjan More, a prominent businessman residing in Pune, decided to forgo the traditional birthday celebrations for his daughter, Kautuka Niranjan More, who turned one this year. Instead, he channeled his resources towards a noble cause by collaborating with S for Schools, a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving educational outcomes in rural areas.

In a statement released today, Niranjan More expressed his commitment to enhancing educational opportunities for children in underserved communities. “As a father, I wanted to instill in my daughter the values of compassion and empathy towards others. By contributing to the betterment of education in rural areas, I hoped to set an example for her and future generations,” he said.

Niranjan More, along with his wife Kajal More, funded the establishment of mobile libraries in four schools in different villages of Pune. These mobile libraries aimed to improve the vocabulary, reading, and speaking abilities of students attending government schools in the region.

“We believed that education was the cornerstone of progress and development. By providing access to books and resources, we could empower children to reach their full potential,” added Kajal More.

The schools that benefited from this initiative included Daunewadi ZP School, Falane ZP School, Karanjgaon Pathar ZP School, and Kacharewadi ZP School. Each mobile library was equipped with a diverse collection of books tailored to the needs and interests of the students.

S for Schools, the organization spearheading this initiative, aimed to reduce dropout rates and improve academic performance in rural areas. “Our grassroots programs focused on engaging parents, teachers, and students to create a supportive learning environment,” explained a representative from S for Schools.

Mobile libraries were a key component of S for Schools’ strategy to promote literacy and foster a love for learning among children in remote areas. “We believed that empowered schools would lead to an empowered society,” concluded the representative.

According to recent statistics, the dropout rate in India stood at 12.6%, highlighting the urgency of initiatives like Niranjan More’s to address educational disparities. Additionally, approximately 9% of the population remained unemployed due to a lack of English-speaking skills.

Niranjan More’s decision to forgo his daughter’s birthday celebration in favor of supporting rural education exemplified the spirit of philanthropy and community engagement. His actions served as a testament to the power of individuals to make a positive impact on society.

Note: S for Schools drove to improve the dropout rates in rural areas by conducting grassroots level programs, working with parents and teachers to reinstall faith in education and bring back dropout students. They were in discussions to establish over 70 libraries in government schools to nurture children’s thinking and creativity.
