The Prime Minister’s Office has stated that in the ongoing efforts of the government to eradicate sickle cell disease as a public health problem, it will be a significant milestone by the year 2047. The announcement of the National Sickle Cell Anemia Elimination Mission was made in the Central Budget of 2023. This mission will be implemented in 278 districts across various states of India, including Gujarat, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, West Bengal, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Assam, Uttar Pradesh, Kerala, Bihar, and Uttarakhand.

The Significance of the National Sickle Cell Anemia Elimination Mission

The National Sickle Cell Anemia Elimination Mission is a groundbreaking initiative undertaken by the Indian government to address the pressing issue of sickle cell disease in the country. As part of the government’s commitment to improving healthcare access, the Prime Minister will commence the distribution of approximately 3.57 crore Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) cards in Madhya Pradesh. The AB-PMJAY scheme aims to provide health insurance coverage to economically disadvantaged individuals and vulnerable communities, ensuring that they have access to quality healthcare services.

The distribution of AB-PMJAY cards in Madhya Pradesh signifies the government’s dedication to ensuring that every citizen receives essential medical support. The cards will grant beneficiaries access to a wide range of treatments and procedures, including those required for the management of sickle cell disease.

Paying Tribute to Rani Durgavati and Her Legacy

During the program held on this occasion, the Prime Minister will pay tribute to Rani Durgavati on the culmination of the Rani Durgavati Gaurav Yatra. The Madhya Pradesh government has organized this journey to commemorate the bravery and sacrifice of Rani Durgavati. Rani Durgavati, a ruler of Gondwana in the 16th century, is revered as a brave and courageous warrior who fought valiantly for independence against the Mughals.

By honoring Rani Durgavati, the Prime Minister aims to inspire the present generation and highlight the importance of courage, leadership, and resilience. Rani Durgavati’s legacy serves as a reminder of the strength and determination required to overcome challenges and achieve societal progress.

Engaging with Tribal Communities and Promoting Community Development

In a unique initiative, the Prime Minister will visit Pakaria village in Shahdol district, where he will interact with tribal communities, self-help groups, leaders of various Panchayat Samitis, and captains of village football clubs.
