PUBG Mobile is getting a new lightweight version designed for players who want the main battle royale experience without using a large amount of phone storage. PUBG Mobile Light is scheduled to launch in 2026, with pre-registration set to begin later this month.
The upcoming version is being developed with a different approach from the older PUBG Mobile Lite. Rather than removing major gameplay features, the new edition is focused on reducing the game’s overall footprint on smartphones.
PUBG Mobile Light Could Need Just 1GB on Android
PUBG Mobile producer Rick Li has revealed that the Android version of PUBG Mobile Light will require approximately 1GB of storage. On iPhone and iPad devices, the game is expected to occupy around 2GB.
The game will also give players more control over downloaded resources. Users will reportedly be able to choose which content they want to store locally, allowing them to manage storage according to their available space.
This could make the game more practical for smartphones with limited internal storage.
Core Battle Royale Experience Remains
Despite its smaller size, PUBG Mobile Light is not being presented as a cut-down version of the main game.
The title is expected to include Erangel and retain the core PUBG Mobile gameplay. Existing players will also reportedly be able to sign in using their current PUBG Mobile accounts and keep access to their outfits, items and other cosmetic content.
As a result, players switching to the Light version should not have to rebuild their cosmetic collections from the beginning.
Cross-Play With the Main PUBG Mobile App
Another important detail is the connection between PUBG Mobile Light and the standard version of PUBG Mobile.
Players using the Light edition will reportedly be able to play together with friends using the regular PUBG Mobile app. Updates are also expected to remain aligned across both versions, allowing players to receive new content without being separated from the wider PUBG Mobile community.
Pre-Registration Begins August 25
PUBG Mobile Light is expected to launch sometime in 2026, although the developers have not announced an exact release date yet.
Pre-registration will reportedly open on August 25 through Google Play and Apple’s App Store. Details regarding supported devices, regions and the final installation requirements are likely to be shared closer to launch.
How PUBG Mobile Light Differs From PUBG Mobile Lite
The new game should not be confused with the existing PUBG Mobile Lite concept.
PUBG Mobile Lite was designed as a smaller, simplified version of the battle royale title, with certain features and content reduced. PUBG Mobile Light takes a different route by attempting to preserve the main PUBG Mobile experience while making the game considerably easier to install and manage on devices with limited storage.
BGMI Lite Could Target Indian Players
The lightweight gaming trend may also extend to India, with BGMI Lite reportedly expected later in 2026. The Indian version is also expected to focus on making the battle royale experience more accessible to users with less powerful smartphones.
Krafton India has meanwhile continued investing in gaming communities through initiatives such as its BGMI Campus MVP student programme, which brings college students into organised gaming and community activities.
