iQOO is giving smartphone enthusiasts another reason to keep an eye on its upcoming flagship. The company has started sharing details about the iQOO 16, and its display is already looking like one of the phone’s biggest upgrades.
The new handset is expected to make its debut in China later this September. It will enter a competitive flagship market where phones such as the upcoming OnePlus 16 are also expected to fight for attention.
A 165Hz 2K Screen Is the Big Highlight
The most interesting part of the iQOO 16 is its screen.
iQOO has confirmed that the phone will use a Samsung M16 OLED panel with a 2K resolution and 165Hz refresh rate. According to the company, this makes the iQOO 16 the first smartphone to combine these two specifications.
For everyday use, the higher refresh rate should make scrolling and animations feel smoother. For gamers, it could be even more useful, particularly in titles that support high frame rates.
And because this is a 2K panel, users should also get a sharper image compared with conventional Full HD+ displays.
The Brightness Numbers Are Impressive
The display’s brightness is another area where iQOO is making some big claims.
The company says the panel can reach 2,800 nits of peak brightness, while its local peak brightness can reportedly go as high as 10,000 nits.
The latter figure is mainly relevant to specific portions of the screen rather than the entire panel. Still, it suggests that iQOO is putting considerable effort into HDR and outdoor visibility.
Touch Response Is Just as Important
A fast display is only useful for gaming if the touchscreen can keep up.
That’s where iQOO’s Q-Flex technology comes into play. The company claims the iQOO 16 can achieve 500Hz multi-finger touch sampling, with instantaneous touch sampling reaching up to 5,000Hz.
These numbers won’t necessarily be noticeable in every app, but competitive gamers could benefit from quicker touch detection when playing fast-paced games.
It Isn’t Just About Gaming
Despite the gaming focus, iQOO isn’t overlooking the basics.
The panel will have a 508 PPI pixel density, support the DCI-P3 color gamut and feature DC dimming. iQOO is also highlighting the display’s power efficiency, which is important considering the combination of a high resolution and 165Hz refresh rate.
In other words, the screen isn’t being designed purely for gaming. It should also be well suited to streaming, photography, social media and regular day-to-day use.
