Nothing Launches Phone (4a) and Bold New (4a) Pro: Mid-Range Magic Without a Flagship

Nothing Technology has officially unveiled its latest mid-range smartphones: the Nothing Phone (4a) and the Nothing Phone (4a) Pro. The devices were announced during a launch event in London on March 5, 2026, marking a significant step for the brand in 2026 after confirming earlier that it would skip a flagship Phone (4) release this year.

The standard Nothing Phone (4a) retains the signature transparent design aesthetic that Nothing fans love, but introduces an upgraded Glyph Bar interface — a streamlined LED notification system replacing the traditional Glyph Lights on previous models. It features a large 6.78-inch AMOLED display with FHD+ resolution, a smooth 120Hz refresh rate, and peak brightness up to 4,500 nits for excellent visibility. Powering the device is Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 chipset, paired with up to 12GB of RAM and 256GB storage options. The battery capacity stands at 5,400mAh with 50W fast wired charging support. On the camera front, it includes a versatile triple setup: a 50MP main sensor, a 50MP telephoto lens offering 3.5x optical zoom, and an 8MP ultrawide shooter, alongside a 32MP front camera.

Available in four vibrant color options — Black, White, Blue, and Pink — the Phone (4a) starts at £349 (approximately ₹31,999 in India for the base 8GB/128GB variant). Pre-orders began immediately after the announcement, with open sales kicking off on March 13, 2026. In India, higher configurations include 8GB/256GB at ₹34,999 and 12GB/256GB at ₹37,999.

In a bolder move, Nothing introduced the Phone (4a) Pro, which represents a more premium take on the mid-range formula. This model ditches the full transparent back for a sleek metal unibody construction — claimed to be the slimmest metal phone Nothing has ever made at just 7.95mm thick — available in sophisticated metallic finishes: Silver, Black, and Pink. It upgrades to a slightly larger 6.83-inch AMOLED panel with a higher 144Hz refresh rate and an impressive 5,000 nits peak brightness. The Pro also boasts enhanced durability (IP65 rating), better cooling, and a larger, brighter Glyph Matrix display integrated into the camera module.

Camera capabilities take a step up on the Pro with a 50MP periscope telephoto lens supporting up to 140x ultra zoom (though practical optical zoom remains strong at 3.5x or better in reports). It uses a superior Sony main sensor compared to the base model’s Samsung one. The Phone (4a) Pro starts at $499 / £499 (matching competitors like the Google Pixel 10a), with pre-orders opening March 13 and full availability on March 27, 2026. Notably, this is the first (a)-series model to launch in the US market, while the standard Phone (4a) skips the US.

Both phones run Nothing OS 4.1 based on Android 16, promising a clean, customizable experience with long-term software support. The launch also coincided with the reveal of the more affordable Headphone (a) over-ear headphones, priced at $199 in the US and available from March 13.

With these releases, Nothing continues to blend distinctive design, solid performance, and competitive pricing in the mid-range segment, appealing to users seeking something fresh amid rising “AI tax” costs across the industry. Availability varies by region, with strong focus on Europe, India, and now the US for the Pro model.
