Producer K Venkat Narayana on Sunday confirmed that Jana Nayagan will finally release once it receives approval from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). His statement came shortly after actor-turned-politician Vijay officially took oath as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.
Speaking to reporters at the swearing-in ceremony in Chennai, Narayana said the makers are currently waiting for the certification process to be completed before announcing a release date.
“We are waiting for the CBFC certificate. The film will release immediately after we receive it,” he said during the event.
The producer also congratulated Vijay on his political achievement and expressed confidence in his leadership. According to Narayana, Vijay’s victory marks the beginning of a “new chapter” in Tamil Nadu politics.
Film Stuck in Certification Process for Months
The much-awaited film has remained unreleased for more than four months despite originally being planned for a January 2026 theatrical release.
According to reports, the movie was first screened for the CBFC examining committee in late 2025. The panel reportedly suggested multiple edits before recommending a U/A certificate. After making the required changes, the production team resubmitted the film for approval.
However, fresh complaints regarding certain sequences allegedly resulted in the film being moved to a revising committee, causing another delay in the process.
The extended wait has reportedly affected overseas distribution plans and release strategies. During the delay, the film was also said to have faced piracy issues online.
KVN Productions Congratulates Vijay
Following Vijay’s election victory, KVN Productions shared a congratulatory post on social media, calling the moment historic for Tamil Nadu.
Fans of Vijay have continued to wait for updates on the film, especially since it is being promoted as the actor’s final project before fully entering politics.
Star Cast and Expectations Around the Film
Alongside Vijay, the film features Mamitha Baiju, Pooja Hegde and Bobby Deol in important roles.
The film has generated significant buzz ever since its announcement, mainly because it is expected to mark Vijay’s farewell to cinema. Earlier, Vijay had also hinted that there may have been political reasons behind the certification delay, describing the situation as a possible “conspiracy”.
