The controversy surrounding NEET UG 2026 has intensified after fresh details from the ongoing investigation suggested that several questions in the medical entrance exam were allegedly identical to material circulated before the test.
The National Testing Agency (NTA) recently cancelled the examination conducted on May 3 following allegations of paper leaks and large-scale malpractice. A revised exam date is expected to be announced soon.
Investigators Suspect Organised Leak Network
Sources connected to the investigation claim that a set of unofficial “practice papers” distributed ahead of the exam had an extremely close resemblance to the final NEET question paper.
Reports indicate that the Biology section showed the highest similarity, while many Chemistry questions were also allegedly repeated from the circulated material.
Officials believe the pattern is too significant to ignore and are now examining whether an organised network was involved in distributing the papers before the examination.
Digital Sharing And Offline Distribution Under Scanner
Investigators are reportedly tracing both online and offline channels through which the material was shared with students.
Several reports suggest that the suspected papers had already reached certain coaching circles before the examination date. Education hubs in Rajasthan and other states are also being examined as part of the probe.
The issue has once again raised serious concerns about the credibility and security of large-scale entrance examinations in the country.
CBI Takes Over Investigation
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has formally registered a case and started collecting evidence related to the alleged leak.
The NTA stated that multiple complaints regarding irregularities were received within days of the examination. After discussions with central agencies and reviewing preliminary findings, the government approved the cancellation of NEET UG 2026.
The agency has confirmed that students will not need to apply again for the re-exam. Existing applications will remain valid for the fresh test.
Lakhs Of Students Left Worried
The decision has affected nearly 23 lakh NEET aspirants across India and abroad. Many students have expressed frustration online, saying the cancellation has increased stress and uncertainty during an already competitive admission process.
Parents and students are now demanding stronger safeguards to prevent future exam leaks and ensure fair opportunities for candidates.
Opposition Leaders Demand Accountability
Political reactions have continued to grow after the cancellation announcement. Congress leader Sachin Pilot criticised the handling of examination-related controversies and called for strict accountability in the education system.
He questioned why previous investigations into similar allegations had not led to visible reforms or punishment for those responsible.
Questions Raised Over Security Arrangements
Before the exam, the NTA had introduced measures such as CCTV surveillance, secure transport systems and GPS tracking of question papers to avoid malpractice.
